It is now October and I am still waiting for the pumpkins to get large. The plant had so many green vines, it appeared not to realize that the frost was coming. Now sunflowers, these are beasts that know how to grow up in Canada. Right from a seed, these monstrous things grew over my fence and with great heads so heavy that they needed to take a rest on my ladder. A comfort to wasps while they ripen, a feast to birds in cold weather--oh yes, people can eat them too. Halloween approaches and yes I'll be visiting the local supermarket for a jack-o-lantern. There is always next year!
