No wonder February is time to celebrate the ones you love.
February is a good time to grow love BECAUSE YOU CANT GROW ANYTHING ELSE, or out doors at least.

Inspiration. No, I don't mean like, "breath in".
Creativity from the creator himself breathed through us.

Halloween Fun

The fish are nicely woken from their short hibernation, the store bought pumpkin has its spot on my table awaiting the great day for its inner self to be brought forward, and my store bought canned pumpkin which was turned into a pie has all been eaten. No more plant stories for a few months, as the only plants now are house plants. In the midst of the turn over from summer to fall we have the wonderful fun of Halloween!

The picture is one of me getting "just the right angle" for my hand dipped wax hand to decorate my office. There will be a prize for best cubicle. I may stand a chance if I could get my daughter Joy to help me, as her creativity is second to none.

The fish so enjoyed their summer in the yard that they got even more gold and silver. their colors are brilliant now. I only hope that when their meals return to fish food instead of bugs that they don't loose their new found brilliance.

I curl up, turn on my fireplace, and dream about spring.

Monster Sunflower

It is now October and I am still waiting for the pumpkins to get large. The plant had so many green vines, it appeared not to realize that the frost was coming. Now sunflowers, these are beasts that know how to grow up in Canada. Right from a seed, these monstrous things grew over my fence and with great heads so heavy that they needed to take a rest on my ladder. A comfort to wasps while they ripen, a feast to birds in cold weather--oh yes, people can eat them too. Halloween approaches and yes I'll be visiting the local supermarket for a jack-o-lantern. There is always next year!

Well, the sunflower "stalking up to fence" idea didn't work. I put the step ladder beneath one of the bowed down heads to give it someplace to rest on. My only concern now, is where to get four other step ladders? Now that would be a good one for a picture.

The pumpkins now have grown to small grapefruit sized yellow balls instead of only plum or small orange sized ones. I have to keep trimming off the new flowers and new shoots. The poor plant doesn't realize he is in Alberta and snow is about to come soon. It's now or never pumpkin plant! I even purchased the supposed "giant sized" pumpkin seeds, as we did not have much luck last year either.

I remember out in Thorsby having great pumpkins. The problem was my daughter picked them all and carved them-in September! I guess she could not wait. She was hoping they would last one month carved. She guessed wrong.

The carrots have been continually good, still some left. The last planting of peas and beans have not even begun to flower yet. August didn't have enough sun.

Last but not least, the wasps nest, which I have burned three times and drown two have relocated from beside my daughters bedroom window. Now it is in the window. It had a small bit open to let the electric cord get to the goldfish pond and there lies the new nest. Actually it isn't completed yet. I thought I'd let them work on it a while longer before I torch it again. At least I know where they are. Fall is so much fun. Bye for now, Anita.

Summer 2007

This is the end of the summer. My sunflower heads are so heavy, that I had to tie the sunflower stalks to the fence. This did not entirely solve the problem, as the heads of the sunflower plants are taller than the fence. Perhaps more sun will help the plants to become stronger.

Just recently returned from B.C. where we had 30 degree weather. And I love Edmonton WHY?
At least the zucchini plants grow well here.

My yard is torn up. I had help from my daughters tearing apart the deck. Too bad they lost interest. Now I must finish the project myself. The pond works--sort of. Joy's pumpkin plant is taking over the back yard--I can always park in the street.

Let's hope for a little more summer like weather in the fall.
